In the evening of the 20th July 2010 the Saigon Professional Chefs’ Guild in coordination with the U.S. Potato Board had organized a seminar on the usage of US Potatoes. More than 150 chefs and other of guests participated at this very interesting event.
Honorary guests were Mr. Michael Riedel, U.S. Agricultural Attaché of the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and Mr. Daniel Chan, representative of the U.S. Potato Board.
Ms. Dang Thi Dong Phuong as the representative of the U.S. Potato board in Vietnam introduced seven types of U.S. potatoes imported in to Vietnam and Chef Huynh Kien showed six dishes made with U.S. potatoes. The same dishes were included in the sumptuous buffet put up by the staff of the New World Hotel.

Continuing the regular training program for the Young Chefs on the 7th June Mdm Suong talked about Vietnamese Cuisine of the North, Centre and South. She delivered a very interesting and lively speech to 36 Chefs attended this very interesting training class.
At the Unilever Home Base Mr. Norbert, Vice Chairman of the Sai Gon Professional Chefs’ Guild showed a presentation and talked about herbs and spices and what dishes to create from them. He brought along samples of these herbs and spices so everyone could taste, smell and feel them. Mr. Norbert finished the session with three dishes made from some of the herbs and spices introduced.

The turnout for the ceremony was overwhelming, with more than 400 guests from the Industry, Press, TV and of course, the very large number of Chefs with representatives from various provinces in Vietnam and even from Cambodia on 25/05/2010

Food tasters’ story must have been a mystery to some people and/or a myth to others – but now it has become a reality as the first public contest aiming at choosing a potential professional food taster is running in Vietnam. No, we are not talking about the dramatic scenario of some guys tasting food to make sure that it is not poisonous before serving it to an emperor or a monarch.
