Food tasters’ story must have been a mystery to some people and/or a myth to others – but now it has become a reality as the first public contest aiming at choosing a potential professional food taster is running in Vietnam. No, we are not talking about the dramatic scenario of some guys tasting food to make sure that it is not poisonous before serving it to an emperor or a monarch.

With the promise of an enviable salary of VND 15 million  per hour, the three-round contest should attract many food lovers’ applications for the job vacancy in the first round. Yet only 20 most outstanding candidates with the most persuading essays about their passion for cooking and flavoring secrets will head into the second round taking place on July 24. In the second and final rounds, contestants both have to cook with given ingredients and flavorings and give a short presentation on their favoring tips for their dishes and their feelings about those flavorings. Only one winner who defeats the other two opponents in the final round held on July 25 has a chance to start the profession as a food taster in the product development of Thuan Phat Food Company.
